چکیده

We report on a search for ultra-high-energy (UHE) neutrinos from gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) in the data set collected by the Testbed station of the Askaryan Radio Array (ARA) in 2011 and 2012. From 57 selected GRBs, we observed no events that survive our cuts, which is consistent with 0.12 expected background events. Using NeuCosmA as a numerical GRB reference emission model, we estimate upper limits on the prompt UHE GRB neutrino fluence and quasi-diffuse flux from 10 7 to 10 10 GeV. This is the first limit on the prompt UHE GRB neutrino quasi-diffuse flux above 10 7 GeV. © 2016 Published by Elsevier B.V.

IceRay: An IceCube-centered Radio-Čerenkov GZK Neutrino Detector

We discuss design considerations and simulation results for IceRay, a proposed large-scale ultra-high energy (UHE) neutrino detector at the South Pole. The array is designed to detect the coherent Askaryan radio emission from UHE neutrino interactions in the ice, with the goal of detecting the cosmogenic neutrino flux with reasonable event rates. Operating in coincidence with the IceCube neutri...

Constraints on the flux of Ultra-High Energy neutrinos from WSRT observations

Context. Ultra-high energy (UHE) neutrinos and cosmic rays initiate particle cascades underneath the Moon’s surface. These cascades have a negative charge excess and radiate Cherenkov radio emission in a process known as the Askaryan effect. The optimal frequency window for observation o f these pulses with radio telescopes on the Earth is around 150 MHz. Aims. By observing the Moon with the We...

TeV-PeV Neutrinos from Giant Flares of Magnetars and the Case of SGR 1806-20

We estimate the high energy neutrino flux from the giant flare of SGR 180620 on December 27, 2004, which irradiated Earth with a gamma-ray flux ∼ 10 times larger than the most luminous gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) ever detected. The Antarctic Cherenkov neutrino detector AMANDA was on-line during the flare, and may either have detected high energy neutrinos for the first time from a cosmic point sour...

Detecting Radio Emission from Cosmic Ray Air Showers and Neutrinos with a Digital Radio Telescope

We discuss the possibilities of measuring ultra-high energy cosmic rays and neutrinos with radio techniques. We review a few of the properties of radio emission from cosmic ray air showers and show how these properties can be explained by coherent “geosynchrotron” emission from electron-positron pairs in the shower as they move through the geomagnetic field. This should allow one to use the rad...

High Energy Astrophysical Tau Neutrinos: The Expectations

A search for high energy astrophysical tau neutrinos will not only yield quite useful information about some of the highest energy phenomenons occurring in the present universe related to the origin of observed high energy gamma rays and ultra high energy cosmic rays but also can possibly probe physics beyond standard model of particle physics. The representative extra terrestrial sources of hi...
